Ordering a Maryland Turkey Takes a Little Planning

Ordering a Thanksgiving turkey from a local farm works differently than buying one from a grocery store, and the earlier you start the conversation the better. Most farms that raise turkeys for the holiday take reservations in advance, sometimes asking for a deposit to hold your bird. The deposit amount and the reservation process vary by farm, so it is worth calling or emailing directly to ask how they handle it. Some farms take a fixed deposit and collect the remainder at pickup, others ask for full payment up front. None of this is standardized, and the farm you contact will tell you exactly what they need.

Market
Local Homestead Products LLC
Carroll County ยท
Nestled in the valley of New Windsor, Local Homestead Products runs a year-round on-farm market on Marston Road where Carroll County shoppers can pick up farm-fresh produce, meats, and dairy without waiting for a Saturday market day. Come fall, the farm transforms into a seasonal destination with their corn maze, Dazed in the Maze, along with a pumpkin patch and holiday events that bring families back through the colder months.
Market
Deep Cove Farm
Anne Arundel ยท
Deep Cove Farm out of Churchton brings a solid range of produce to the farmers market circuit, including cane berries, sweet corn, and both standard and heirloom tomatoes. Their heirloom apple selection and greens lineup , collards, mustard, kale, and field cress , round out the table nicely for shoppers looking to cook from scratch. Anne Arundel County growers like this one are worth seeking out when the summer and fall seasons hit their stride.

CSA
Common Root Farm
Montgomery County
Common Root Farm, a certified organic vegetable operation tucked near Olney in Montgomery County, grows with minimal-till methods and crop rotation rather than synthetic inputs. Members can join the CSA, shop through the farm's online grocery store, or find their produce at local farmers markets. They also supply local restaurants and food banks, keeping their harvest circulating close to home.
CSA
Summer Creek Farm
Frederick County
Summer Creek Farm in Thurmont holds the distinction of being Frederick County's largest certified organic farm, supplying wholesale clients with fresh organic vegetables while also producing something less common among Maryland farms: certified organic living soil mixes for growers. Located on Mud College Road in the shadow of Catoctin Mountain, the operation serves both commercial producers and home growers looking for a more sustainable foundation for their plants.

Meat
The Good Farm
Worcester
Located on Sinepuxent Road in Berlin, The Good Farm is a small, diversified family operation and the only CSA serving Worcester County. Along with laying hens, meat chickens, and ducks, the farm is expanding into pork and beef this year, rounding out a share that already includes cut flowers, herbs, and seasonal produce. For Eastern Shore residents looking to source more of their food close to home, this is a meaningful option.
Meat
Pond View Acres
Charles County
Pond View Acres in Hughesville raises a notably broad range of proteins for a single family operation: grass-fed, grain-finished beef, pastured pork, free-range chicken, lamb, and goat, along with farm-fresh eggs. Orders go through Barn2Door for easy online pickup or delivery, and the farm also supplies area restaurants and appears at local farmers markets throughout Charles County. For Southern Maryland households looking to source most of their meat from one farm, this is a practical and well-rounded option.
